How to Use
  1. Check skin and directions: read the wax warnings before starting. Do not wax sunburned, broken, irritated or recently peeled skin, or excluded areas such as eyelids, eyelashes, nipples, perianal or vaginal areas and mucous tissue. Crybaby Wax directions exclude use with retinol or tretinoin. Ask your clinician whether and when waxing is appropriate; do not stop prescribed treatment to wax.
  2. Patch test first: check wax temperature, wax a small part of the intended treatment area and wait 24 hours. Proceed only if no reaction occurs. A wrist-temperature check is a separate check before each use.
  3. Prepare: hair should be at least 1/4 inch long. Gently cleanse away lotion, oil and surface residue, then dry the skin fully. Use a light dusting of A Wail of a Time Talc-Free Priming Powder only if extra moisture needs absorbing. Powder does not prevent burns or skin lifting.
  4. Heat with the full-size Meltdown Machine: fully melt the wax, reduce the setting to 150 F, stir and allow cooling until it pours like honey. If it runs like water, let it cool; if stiff like paste, warm it in the pot and check again. Test a small amount on your inner wrist before use; it should feel comfortably warm, never burning. A dial setting or green light does not replace this check. A warmer and applicators are sold separately. If using another warmer, follow that model's instructions; the automatic Mini has no adjustable dial.
  5. Apply: choose a small area you can see clearly and control. Spread an even, continuous layer with a clean applicator in the direction of hair growth, leaving an edge you can grip. Keep wax off excluded areas. Hard wax does not need a fabric strip.
  6. Remove: lightly touch the outer edge with a clean fingertip. If it sticks or draws strings, wait and check again. Once no longer sticky, hold skin taut and pull quickly against hair growth, low and parallel to skin. Leave missed hairs alone instead of repeating passes. Never heat a patch already on your skin.
  7. Aftercare: on intact skin, gently massage a small amount of You Big Softie Finishing Oil to loosen residue and condition skin. It contains sweet almond and soybean oils; check your sensitivities. If also using Just Cool It Calming Mango Gel, apply gel first. Do not apply oil to burns or broken skin. Avoid immediate makeup, scrubbing and hot baths; ask your clinician when to restart retinoids or other active treatments.
  8. Finish: stop if skin burns, blisters, lifts or becomes increasingly painful; seek medical advice for injured skin. Turn off, unplug and let the warmer cool completely before cleaning or storage. Follow its cleaning instructions.

FAQ

Find the most frequently asked questions below.

The Below the Belt Kit contains Full On Meltdown Vegan Hard Wax, A Wail of a Time Talc-Free Priming Powder and You Big Softie Finishing Oil. A warmer and applicators are sold separately. Beginners should start with a small, visible external bikini-line area permitted by the wax directions. Keep wax off internal genital areas and mucous membranes. Choose a licensed esthetician for areas you cannot clearly see, reach and hold taut, or if you are unsure about a full Brazilian.

Read the wax warnings and patch test the intended area 24 hours ahead. Hair should be at least 1/4 inch; cleanse and fully dry the skin, using a light dusting of powder only for remaining moisture. If using the full-size Meltdown Machine, fully melt the wax, reduce its setting to 150 F, and let it cool to a thick honey-like texture. Stir and check a small amount on your inner wrist before each area. Work only on permitted external skin you can see and hold taut. Apply a small, even strip with growth; when the outer edge is no longer sticky, pull quickly against growth, low and parallel to the skin. Do not re-wax the same spot. Use finishing oil sparingly on intact skin as directed. If also using a suitable calming gel, apply it before oil. The oil contains sweet almond and soybean oils. See the beginner guide for the full method; leave difficult-to-reach areas to a licensed esthetician.

Waxing can hurt, and doing it at home does not guarantee less pain than a salon service. Sensation varies with the area, hair and technique. Use small, manageable sections and check that wax feels comfortably warm before applying. Stop if you feel burning or see skin lifting; extra heat or repeated passes will not fix those problems. Choose a licensed esthetician if you cannot confidently see, reach and support the area.

Wait until hair is at least 1/4 inch long, about the length of a grain of rice. Check actual regrowth rather than relying on a fixed number of days after shaving. If wax leaves short hairs behind, let them grow instead of repeatedly waxing the same spot.

Check each product's ingredients and directions first. The included Full On wax contains fragrance, and You Big Softie Finishing Oil contains sweet almond and soybean oils. Patch test the intended area 24 hours before waxing and do not wax irritated, sunburned or broken skin. Priming powder is optional for extra moisture; it does not prevent burns or skin lifting. This kit contains wax, powder and oil; a warmer, applicators, AHA splash and calming gel are not included.

Base the next session on your regrowth and skin condition. Wait until hair is at least 1/4 inch long and the skin has fully settled. The right interval varies; waxing does not guarantee finer future growth or permanent reduction. Do not wax irritated skin or repeat passes to maintain a fixed schedule.

Results vary with your hair growth and the area, so there is no fixed smooth-skin window for everyone. Waxing removes existing hair and does not permanently stop growth. Plan another session only when hair is at least 1/4 inch long and the skin has fully settled; do not repeatedly wax short regrowth.
